It is always an honour to be asked for our input and advice to give to brides planning their weddings. But now with COVID-19 restrictions, planning a wedding can be very stressful and difficult. It means more and more weddings are being held outdoors, but what does that mean for your wedding day? Planning an outdoor wedding is definitely very difficult with so many new factors to consider. Today’s Bride Magazine blog has featured us as well as fellow wedding industry professionals for the best outdoor wedding tips we could offer. Be sure to check out this lengthy article on outdoor wedding tips to make planning your wedding a breeze this year.

Last year, we photographed many outdoor weddings where the lighting was a huge issue especially when it came to their wedding ceremony. As a wedding photographer, as much as we can try to take beautiful photographs of your wedding day, if we have difficult lighting from the sun – it is difficult for us to control! It’s better to get around it and plan for it. My favourite secret tip is to use an app – Sun Seeker. You can visually see where the sun will be for a certain location for a certain time.

Even for my own wedding in Bali, I made sure to plan for the right light too. I knew that it was going to be very hot and very sunny during our wedding ceremony as we wanted to reserve the best sunset light for our wedding photos. So my husband and I opted to diffuse the light over us with a light fabric as part of our wedding arbour. This helped to create beautiful soft glowy light. I also planned for our ceremony to be situated in the right spot and time so that the sun would be behind us. Location and timing are so important too!

Being a wedding photographer for so many years, made planning for these things a little easier but if you’re ever not sure – be sure to check in with your wedding photographer who can certainly help you out too. Because they want to help capture the best photos for your wedding day too. Planning for these things in advance will actually help make your wedding photographer’s job easier both on the day and afterwards when it comes to editing. It’s a win-win!
